IP NGN - IP Next-Generation Network

Announcing IPoDWDM

IP over DWDM Transports Networks to the Zettabyte Era

Pioneering IP over dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) technology from Cisco continues to innovate, and deliver the service flexibility, scalability and increased resiliency that enable carriers to capitalize on increasingly bandwidth-intensive and complex applications driven by Web 2.0 and collaborative business services.

Exabyte Era Transport

Innovations Enhance IP Transport

Cisco pioneered IP over DWDM (IPoDWDM) and introduced it to the industry in December 2005. Since then, several providers have been using the power of IPoDWDM to combine and distribute video content rapidly and efficiently over an all-IP network, and provision additional network capacity instantly as demand increases for “any-play” consumer and managed business services. The Cisco IPoDWDM solution allows for the reduction of transport elements and, in some cases, the complete elimination of regeneration sites, dramatically reducing capital and operational costs. The announcement today includes the following key product enhancements and innovations.

  • CRS-1: New 40G IPoDWDM interface, 2x to 2,000 KM without optical regeneration
  • XR 12000 / 12000: New 10GE interface, extending IPoDWDM to the Edge
  • ONS 15454 MSTP: New Omni-directional & Colorless ROADM
  • Proactive Protection: Re-setting the Standard for Quality of Experience (QoE)
  • Virtual Transponder: Accommodating existing operational models

Cisco CRS-1 platform reaches 2,000 kilometers, without regeneration, to enable scalable service deployments even in diverse geographies.
